The Boggart Gallery

Alongside our exhibition Weird As Folk: Tall Tales from the Northwest Exhibition, we’ve encouraged our visitors to draw their own ‘Boggarts’ and ‘Wag at the Was’ when they come to visit. These are trickster spirits in English and Scottish folklore who like to cause mischief wherever they go, and we were interested to see what people thought these creatures may look like.

Below is a collection of them! We are thrilled by the creativity and variety showcased by our visitors, and hope you also enjoy them!

Some are inspired by our boggart: Bryan!

Some have stories!

Some are scary!

Some look like people!

All of them are wonderful!

If you would like to make your own Boggart or Wag at the Wa, feel free to download one of our templates here!

We’ve been blown away by the enthusiasm of our visitors’ contributions to the exhibition, thank you everyone who took part!
