From Palette to Palate: FULLY BOOKED

  • The Portico Library 57 Mosley Street Manchester, England, M2 3HY United Kingdom (map)

£20. Book here.

An immersive edible experience exploring the links between the culinary and the artistic.

Join art historian Sara Riccardi, founder of Art Across, and Portico Kitchen manager Joe Fenn at an event for the eyes, the mind and the palate. While Sara presents examples of food in art, exploring the role, significance and meaning of its representation in the visual arts throughout the centuries, Joe will serve a bespoke menu of taster dishes which illustrate and animate these themes.

Join us in asking: what is the symbolic meaning of apples? What does Renaissance art say about eating practices at the time? Why does a lemon represent a status symbol? And how does the visual representation of food affect the way we experience it? These and more questions are discussed – and digested – as we feast with our bellies and eyes!

If you have any questions regarding dietary requirements, please do not hesitate to contact the Library on 0161 236 6785 or email kitchen@theportico.org.uk. We will do our best to accommodate requirements where we can, however, due to the nature of this event this may not always be possible.
