Join us to read and discuss Shirley by Charlotte Brontë volume by volume, as originally published in 1849. The Portico Library has first edition volumes of Shirley, which is set in 1811-12, and follows two very different young women born into very different circumstances. It was Charlotte Bronte’s first novel after Jane Eyre and her only historical ‘condition of England’ novel.
Our copy is currently undergoing the conservation work.
In this session we will be discussing Volume Two: Chapters Twelve (Shirley and Caroline) to Chapter Twenty Three (An Evening Out) in a zoom meeting. Please email events@theportico.org.uk to sign up for the link. We will be restricting numbers to a manageable amount for a book club!
You can buy the book from our online bookshop here.
