resonance w/ John Haycock & DBH + Magpahi

  • The Portico Library 57 Mosley Street Manchester, England, M2 3HY United Kingdom (map)

£15 plus fee here. £17.50 on the door on the night.

A celestial exploration between light, sound and setting based over the hill in the Calder Valley comes to Manchester. We bring John Haycock (Kora, Clarinet + electronics) DBH (Fiddle, guitar) with support from Alison Cooper (voice, electronics) to perform the commissioned piece, ‘resonance’ to the Portico, for this unique multi-sensory event.

Blending the practices of Pauline Oliveros’s, Deep Listening and the history of the local area's most notable buildings, these happenings use the natural reverberations of the environment and their acoustic architecture. We combine this with crystal lighting effects and hand-crafted cymatic projections which develop live feedback from the musicians to fill these spaces with audio and visual vibrations at all levels of the electromagnetic spectrum (and perhaps beyond what is commonly thought of) into a multi-dimensional experience. Together with local folklore, legend, and community stories, we curate exciting, impactful happenings.

Our event at the Portico Library will bring our live show to Manchester for the first time, and utilise the unique atmosphere of this superb historical setting to make a memorable evening of music and refracted projections, history, literature and folklore within the space and transform it into a living experience of light and sound. Lighting from Jamie House.
