Roads to Rome: Two Thousand Years of Travel Along the Routes of Empire

  • The Portico Library 57 Mosley Street Manchester, England, M2 3HY United Kingdom (map)

The Manchester Classical Association presents Prof Catherine Fletcher (Manchester Metropolitan University) speaking on her new book Roads to Rome: Two Thousand Years of Travel Along the Routes of Empire. Free, book here.

Prof Catherine Fletcher is a historian specialising in Renaissance and Early Modern European history, especially but not exclusively of the Italian peninsula. She's interested in the communication of history to wider publics, via fiction and non-fiction, on radio and TV, at heritage sites and beyond.

Catherine is currently working on two research projects: one explores the early history of firearms in sixteenth-century Italy, and the other looks at travel to Rome across a long historical period and its significance in cultural memory. She will speak to us this evening about her work on travel to Rome.

Her previous publications include the best-selling Times Book of the Year (2020) The Beauty and the Terror An Alternative History of the Italian Renaissance

This event will be in person. Free light refreshments will be served from 5.30pm.
