Weird as Folk: Tall Tales from the Northwest - Teaser

  • The Portico Library 57 Mosley Street Manchester, England, M2 3HY United Kingdom (map)

Free during our opening hours.

The Portico Library, Manchester, is putting on an exhibition and programme of activity exploring folk tales, dialect, boggarts and a sense of place as part of its innovative People, Purpose, and Place in Historic Books project. Weird as Folk is made possible with the support of The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The exhibition will begin with a teaser display on words used to catalogue folklore related books  that opens to mark Manchester’s Festival of Libraries on 12 June and runs until 29 June. Come along and try your knowledge – do you know what Wag-at-the-Wa’ means? Or mumming?

Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to work with critical friends from across the region and beyond to pull together a programme that explores the role that folk stories play in our everyday lives.
