Zodiac in pharaoh’s tomb

This print reproduces the richly painted ceiling from the burial chamber of King Seti I (1294-1279 BCE). The pharaoh’s tomb (KV 17) was discovered by Giovanni Batista Belzoni, the author of this volume, in 1817. The ceiling carries an astronomical scene with constellations depicted as various Egyptian gods, who take the form of animals or animal-headed human beings.

Curated by Dr Campbell Price, Curator of Egypt and Sudan at Manchester Museum.
