This image of a Chinese sailing ship, printed in John Crawfurd’s 1820 book, The History of the Indian Archipelago, provides evidence of the prosperous trade that was shared between Asian countries at this time.
In depicting this sea transportation by Asiatic merchants, it refutes contemporary European contentions that they were ‘ignorant of geography and navigation’ (from page 141)
